The thesis is small but worth stating plainly. Sherman Oaks is not gaining another cluster of restaurants. It is gaining anchor tenants at scale, in buildings that have either been rebuilt from historic plans or leased at square footages that assume a decade of use. A Googie Landmark, Rebuilt To Spec

The concept comes from professional skateboarder Don "Nuge" Nguyen and restaurateur Steven Arroyo, and the menu is deliberately narrow: American Wagyu smash burgers on Kings Hawaiian buns, fries, Mexican soda, a short vegetarian and gluten-free lineup. The Fairfax original earned a loyal following on the strength of that discipline, and the Sherman Oaks address plants the brand roughly a mile east of Sushi Row.
Two blocks west, at 14350 Ventura Boulevard, Aromas Indian Cuisine is moving into the former Billa Indian Cuisine and SanSai Japanese Grill space under operators Jaspal Singh and Jaspreet Bindra. The menu telegraphs a traditional-plus-contemporary approach with a street-food thread. The address matters more than the concept. That corner has cycled through two Asian-cuisine tenants in the last decade, and a third operator taking it on with a liquor license filing suggests the block is being underwritten differently than it was in 2019.
If you draw a line from Burger She Wrote at 14245 to Yama at 15300, you cover the section of Ventura most residents actually walk. Every one of those addresses now has either a new operator or a fresh build-out inside it.
What The Galleria Is Actually Programming
The Sherman Oaks Galleria has spent the better part of two years quietly re-tenanting its restaurant pads, and the summer's most interesting arrival there is not a restaurant in the conventional sense.
Hapa Haus, a Hawaiian-leaning restaurant-bar with five golf simulators, is targeting a November opening at 15301 W. Ventura Boulevard under owner Alex Miyawaki. City filings describe a 7,983-square-foot footprint with 69 indoor seats and a 1,526-square-foot covered patio holding another 48. Miyawaki picked up golf during the pandemic, and the format he is bringing borrows from the simulator-bar concept that has taken hold in Austin, New York, and Scottsdale.
Sherman Oaks already has a serious indoor-golf option in The City Golf, whose Sherman Oaks facility runs nine simulators, two of them Foresight systems used by PGA professionals, with video playback for swing analysis. What Hapa Haus adds is not more sim bays. It is the pairing of the sim with a full kitchen and patio at a mall address, which pulls the format out of the training-facility category and into weekend dinner rotation. Whether that translates for a Valley audience will be the interesting question of the fall.
